WHAT IS SUPERFLAT?
today I was talking with my teacher on my way home and I told him about my portfolio review idea and he asked me “what’s superflat”
All of my works are all inspired by superflat artists and also from reading/watching anime when I was a kid… (Aya Takano and Takashi Murakami also Yoshitomo Nara) but I struggle to explain to others who aren’t very into…anime (because ilustrations from the West is different from the East)…
and I found this perfect website that explain what Superflat is.
TBH I started looking up to superflat around 2008 because you get a lot of artists that were influenced by anime (and I love Takashi’s use of flat colors and Takano’s way of using dreams in her paintings)…and the whole deep meaning is very interesting (and I recomment you buy or borrow takashi murakami at the palace of versailles…his stragety on where to put his characters next to paintings/rooms were very interesting)
Sometimes I struggle at school because when it comes to art colleges, they expect you to give more fine art/piece than half naked pastel goth girils with glitter…but what they don’t know that there are deep symbolism/meaning in all of superflat paintings.

Slight life update:
Been super busy (which explains the radio silence of last week) and a little sad. My idealistic dreams have been pretty much destroyed by the crushing weight of reality. When I entered college I thought I could do anything. Dream job, exciting lifestyle, life in a cultural and vibrant city. Now, I think I’ve made too many mistakes to achieve what I want, but I still don’t want to let go of my former goals…ah well.
